UI/UX Design Learning Programme
Build practical design skills through hands-on projects and real-world scenarios
Our programme focuses on teaching you the fundamentals of user interface and user experience design. You'll work through actual design challenges, learn industry-standard tools, and develop a portfolio that showcases your abilities. We start with the basics and build up gradually—no prior design experience needed.
Get Programme DetailsWhat You'll Actually Learn
Our curriculum covers the core skills you need to start working in UI/UX design. Each module builds on the previous one, so you develop a solid foundation before moving to more complex topics.
Design Fundamentals
Start with the basics—layout principles, colour theory, typography, and visual hierarchy. These are the building blocks that inform everything else you'll do.
- Layout composition and spacing
- Colour selection and application
- Typography pairing and readability
- Visual hierarchy techniques
User Research Methods
Learn how to understand what users actually need. We cover practical research techniques you can apply to real projects without massive budgets.
- User interviews and surveys
- Persona development
- Journey mapping
- Usability testing basics
Interface Design Tools
Get comfortable with Figma—the tool most teams use today. You'll learn wireframing, prototyping, and how to hand off designs to developers.
- Figma interface and workflows
- Component libraries
- Interactive prototypes
- Design system basics
Interaction Design
Understand how users interact with interfaces. You'll learn to design micro-interactions, transitions, and responsive behaviours that feel natural.
- Button states and feedback
- Animation principles
- Mobile gesture design
- Accessibility considerations
Portfolio Projects
Work on three substantial projects that demonstrate your skills. These become the foundation of your portfolio when you're ready to look for work.
- Mobile app redesign
- Responsive website design
- Dashboard interface
- Case study documentation
Professional Practice
Learn how design actually works in business settings—client communication, feedback handling, file organization, and presenting your work effectively.
- Design critique participation
- Client presentation skills
- Version control for designers
- Portfolio website creation
Hands-On Learning
You'll spend most of your time actually designing things. Each week includes practical exercises where you apply what you've learned to real design problems.
Our sessions mix short explanations with longer work periods where you can ask questions and get feedback on what you're creating. It's not about memorizing theory—it's about building muscle memory with design tools and developing your eye for what works.
By the end, you'll have completed multiple projects you can show to potential employers or clients, along with the confidence to tackle new design challenges independently.
Who Teaches the Programme
Our instructors are working designers who bring current industry experience to every session. They've dealt with the same challenges you'll face and can share what actually works in practice.
Finnian Westbrook
Lead UI Designer
Finnian has spent eight years designing interfaces for startups and established companies. He specializes in design systems and has a knack for explaining complex concepts in straightforward terms. He runs most of our tool training and portfolio review sessions.
Annika Solberg
UX Researcher
Annika focuses on the research side of design. She's worked with both small teams and large organizations, helping them understand their users better. She handles our research methods modules and teaches practical approaches that work without huge budgets or teams.
Siobhan Rafferty
Product Designer
Siobhan works across the full design process—from initial research through to final implementation. She's particularly good at helping students develop their design thinking and approach problems methodically. She leads our project work and critiques.
Programme Schedule
The programme runs for six months with sessions twice weekly. We keep groups small so everyone gets individual attention and feedback on their work.
| Intake Period | Programme Duration | Session Times | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 2026 | 6 months (Sept–Feb) | Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30–9:00 PM | Evening sessions, in-person with remote option |
| January 2027 | 6 months (Jan–June) | Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:30–9:00 PM | Evening sessions, in-person with remote option |
About attendance: Regular participation matters. The programme builds progressively, so missing sessions makes it harder to keep up. We record sessions for review, but the real value comes from doing the work and getting live feedback. Plan to commit the full six months before you start.
